The Coconut Telegraph
An island network the island owns.
The coconut telegraph is how news has always actually moved here — porch to porch, dock to dock, faster than any official channel and belonging to nobody in particular. We are building that in hardware: a long-range radio network across the territory, designed and built here, owned by the people on it.
01 — LONG-RANGE RADIO
Built for this geography, not adapted to it.
LoRa carries a small message a very long way on very little power — across open water, along a ridge line, into the valleys where coverage has always been someone else's cost problem. A node runs for months on a panel the size of a paperback.
And it stays up when the rest doesn't. When the towers are down and the grid is out after a storm, the telegraph is still passing messages. That is not a feature we added — it is what this radio is for.
02 — KITS AND INSTRUCTION
A teenager can build a node and put it on the air the same day.
Our STEM kits are real hardware, not a toy — a board, a radio, an antenna, and firmware they compile themselves. The instructional programme runs with schools and youth groups across the territory: embedded code, radio, antennas, power budgets. Real engineering, on equipment they keep.
Every kit that joins the network makes the network bigger. The lesson and the infrastructure are the same object.
The firmware lab
We design the devices here — firmware, boards, antennas, enclosures built for salt air, heat and hurricane season, not adapted from something made for a temperate warehouse.
Internships
Paid places on the bench for students coming out of the programme. You leave able to read a schematic, flash a board and debug a radio link.
Manufacturing jobs
Assembly, test, flashing and shipping, in the territory. A young person can go from a classroom kit to a paid bench without leaving the islands to do it.
The AI, over the air
Every node is a doorway to the co-op's Virgin Islands-tuned AI. Ask a question from a boat, a field or a ridge with no bars and the answer comes back over the telegraph.
Here is the pitch, plainly. Communications here have always been somebody else's asset, priced somewhere else and restored on somebody else's schedule.
